Executive Order 14370

President Donald Trump told donors in August 2025 that he "was interested" in reclassification, and that a rescheduling announcement was forthcoming "in weeks". Reports suggested the administration would order rescheduling before year's end. Trump issued executive order 14370 on December 18, 2025, directing the Attorney General to expedite reclassification to Schedule III, in order to improve "marijuana-related medical research". Acting United States Attorney General Todd Blanche issued an April 22, 2026, order to reclassify state-licensed medical cannabis to Schedule III, effective upon publication in the Federal Register on April 28. DEA conducted a new set of hearings between June 29 and July 15, 2026.
