Bangladesh

English-language teaching in Bangladesh begins at the primary level and continues through high school. Although Bengali is the official state language and the mother tongue of almost 97 percent of the population, English is widely spoken in the country as a result of two centuries of regional Britishcolonial rule and is used in formal day-to-day activities. Almost all colleges and other higher-education institutions provide programs in English language and literature, and the British Council Bangladesh is a branch of the British Council; Bangladesh is part of the Commonwealth of Nations.
