The Eastern Syria insurgency was an armed insurgency waged by remnants of the Islamic State and both pro- and anti-Ba'athist SyriaArab nationalist insurgents against the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES), its military (the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF)), and their allies in the US-led Combined Joint Task Force – Operation Inherent Resolve (CJTF–OIR) coalition.
