The United States Drill Sergeant Academy is located in Fort Jackson, South Carolina. This is where all drill sergeants go to complete their drill sergeant training. The academy is led by the commandant and deputy commandant of the Drill Sergeant Academy. The instructors, known as drill sergeant leaders (DSLs) are previously trained and experienced drill sergeants. DSLs are selected by a panel of current senior drill sergeant leaders, along with the leadership from the academy. DSLs are held to the same Army standards that new incoming drill sergeants are assessed on and must remain at those standards while instructing at the academy.
