Cornus kousa

Cornus kousa is a small deciduous tree in the flowering plant family Cornaceae. Common names include kousa, kousa dogwood, Chinese dogwood, Korean dogwood, and Japanese dogwood.

The tree grows up to 10 metres (33 feet) tall. Whitish bracts appear in spring, along with cymes of yellowish flowers. The fruit is a red berry about 2 cm (3⁄4 in) wide.

It is native to East Asia and widely cultivated elsewhere, being naturalised in New York State. A number of hybrids and cultivars exist. The sweet berry pulp is edible raw, but the rind is usually discarded.
