Alfred Métraux

Alfred Métraux (French pronunciation:; 5 November 1902 – 12 April 1963) was a Swiss-Argentineanthropologist, ethnologist and human rights leader.

Métraux was praised by fellow anthropologist Claude Lévi-Strauss: "To begin with, it was Métraux who always took ethnography seriously, who tirelessly protected our science, and the Indians themselves, from the sometimes dangerous fantasies of the esthetes and the theoreticians."
