On 16 July 2026, following the imprisonment of Nicola Sturgeon's husband Peter Murrell for embezzlement from the SNP as a result of Operation Branchform, Sir David Davis MP again used parliamentary privilege to address the Alex Salmond scandal. Davis accused Sturgeon of enabling Murrell's embezzlement and expressed his disbelief that Sturgeon could have been unaware of her husband's purchases. He linked Operation Branchform to the Alex Salmond scandal by claiming that Sturgeon and Murrell pursued Salmond over sexual misconduct claims as part of an effort to "hide their own crimes" by preventing Salmond from making a return to the SNP's National Executive Committee in 2018. Through her lawyer Aamer Anwar, Sturgeon issued a statement rejecting Davis' statements and accused him of abusing parliamentary privilege to spread "conspiracy theories" and "lies".
