The above definition of an adjoint operator extends verbatim to bounded linear operators on Hilbert spaces${\displaystyle H}$. The definition has been further extended to include unbounded densely defined operators, whose domain is topologically dense in, but not necessarily equal to, ${\displaystyle H.}$
