A Single buoy mooring (SBM) (also known as single-point mooring or SPM) is a loading buoy anchored offshore, that serves as a mooring point and interconnect for tankers loading or offloading gas or liquid products. SPMs are the link between geostatic subsea manifold connections and weathervaning tankers. They are capable of handling any tonnage ship, even very large crude carriers (VLCC) where no alternative facility is available.

Thistle SALMThistle SALMThe Thistle SALM (Single Anchor Leg Mooring) was a tanker loading facility that allowed oil from the Thistle oilfield to be transported to land where a submarine export pipeline did not yet exist. It was also the site of the 8 August 1979 Wildrake diving accident that killed two divers. and the 21 January 1981 Stena Seaspread diving accident (non-fatal). DevelopmentIn February 1975, Burmah Oil decided to develop the Thistle SALM.HawserHawserA hawser () is a thick rope used in mooring or towing a ship. A hawser is not waterproof, as is a cable. A hawser is an anchor rope, located on the .Tanker (ship)Tanker (ship)A tanker (or tank ship or tankship) is a ship designed to transport or store liquids or gases in bulk. Major types of tanker ship include the oil tanker (or petroleum tanker), the chemical tanker, cargo ships, and a gas carrier. Tankers also carry commodities such as vegetable oils, citrus juice, molasses, and wine.Oil Companies International Marine ForumOil Companies International Marine ForumOCIMF is a voluntary association of oil and energy companies having an interest in the shipment and terminalling of crude oil, oil products, petrochemicals and gas, and includes companies engaged in offshore marine operations supporting oil and gas exploration, development and production. OCIMF's aim is to ensure that the global marine industry operates safely and causes no harm to people or the environment.Single buoy mooringSingle buoy mooringA Single buoy mooring (SBM) (also known as single-point mooring or SPM) is a loading buoy anchored offshore, that serves as a mooring point and interconnect for tankers loading or offloading gas or liquid products. The number of main bearings per engine varies between engines, often in accordance with the forces produced by the operation of the engine. Main bearings are usually plain bearings or journal bearings, held in place by the engine block and bearing caps.Design loadDesign loadIn general, the term design load can refer to two distinct concepts: the maximum amount a system is designed to handle, orthe maximum amount the system is capable of producing. These interpretations represent fundamentally different aspects of system performance. The design load is either the same as or a multiple of the rated load, which represents the system's declared performance capacity, see structural design load section below.Neutral buoyancyNeutral buoyancyNeutral buoyancy occurs when an object's average density is equal to the density of the fluid in which it is immersed, resulting in the buoyant force balancing the force of gravity that would otherwise cause the object to sink (if the body's density is greater than the density of the fluid in which it is immersed) or rise (if it is less). An object that has neutral buoyancy will neither sink nor rise.Oil tankerOil tankerAn oil tanker, also known as a petroleum tanker, is a ship designed for the bulk transport of oil or its products. There are two basic types of oil tankers: crude tankers and product tankers. Crude tankers move large quantities of unrefined crude oil from its point of extraction to refineries. Product tankers, generally much smaller, are designed to move refined products from refineries to points near consuming markets.BuoyBuoyA buoy (; ) is a floating device that can have many purposes. It can be anchored (stationary) or allowed to drift with ocean currents. HistoryThe ultimate origin of buoys is unknown, but by 1295 a seaman's manual referred to navigation buoys in the Guadalquivir River in Spain. To the north there are early medieval mentions of the French / Belgian River Maas being buoyed.
