Reston virus (RESTV) is one of six known viruses within the genusEbolavirus. Reston virus causes Ebola virus disease in non-human primates; out of all 6 ebolaviruses, it is one of the only two not known to cause disease in humans, but has caused asymptomatic infections. Reston virus was first described in 1990 as a new "strain" of Ebola virus (EBOV). It is the single member of the speciesReston ebolavirus, which is included into the genusEbolavirus, familyFiloviridae, orderMononegavirales.

EbolavirusEbolavirusThe genus Orthoebolavirus, known as Ebolavirus (- or ; ee-BOH-lə- or ə-BOH-lə-VY-rəs) until 2023, is a virological taxon included in the family Filoviridae (filament-shaped viruses), order Mononegavirales. The members of this genus are called ebolaviruses, and encode their genome in the form of single-stranded negative-sense RNA.EbolaEbolaEbola, also known as Ebola virus disease (EVD) and Ebola hemorrhagic fever (EHF), is a zoonoticviral hemorrhagic fever in humans and other primates, caused by four of the six known ebolaviruses. Symptoms typically start anywhere between two days and three weeks after infection. The first symptoms are usually fever, sore throat, muscle pain, and headaches.FiloviridaeFiloviridaeFiloviridae () is a family of single-stranded negative-sense RNA viruses in the orderMononegavirales. Two members of the family that are commonly known are Ebola virus and Marburg virus. Both viruses, and some of their lesser known relatives, cause severe disease in humans and nonhuman primates in the form of viral hemorrhagic fevers.Reston, VirginiaReston, VirginiaReston is a census-designated place in Fairfax County, Virginia, United States, and a principal city of both Northern Virginia and the Washington metropolitan area. As of the 2020 U.S. census, Reston's population was 63,226. Founded in 1964, Reston was influenced by the Garden City movement that emphasized planned, self-contained communities that intermingled green space, residential neighborhoods, and commercial development.FortreaFortreaFortrea Holdings Inc. is an American contract research organization organized in Delaware and headquartered in Durham, North Carolina with operations in approximately 100 countries. Its customers are primarily in the pharmaceutical, biotechnology, and medical device industries. Its primary business is handling all aspects of clinical trials including phase I through IV clinical trial management, clinical pharmacology, and post-approval services.Zaire ebolavirusZaire ebolavirusOrthoebolavirus zairense or Zaire ebolavirus, more commonly known as Ebola virus (; EBOV), is one of six known species within the genus Ebolavirus. Four of the six known ebolaviruses, including EBOV, cause a severe and often fatal hemorrhagic fever in humans and other mammals, known as Ebola virus disease (EVD).Biosafety levelBiosafety levelA biosafety level (BSL), or pathogen/protection level, is a set of biocontainment precautions required to isolate dangerous biological agents in an enclosed laboratory facility. The levels of containment range from the lowest biosafety level 1 (BSL-1) to the highest at level 4 (BSL-4).International Committee on Taxonomy of VirusesInternational Committee on Taxonomy of VirusesThe International Committee on Taxonomy of Viruses (ICTV) authorizes and organizes the taxonomic classification of and the nomenclature for viruses. The ICTV develops a universal taxonomic scheme for viruses, and thus has the means to appropriately describe, name, and classify every virus taxon. The members of the International Committee on Taxonomy of Viruses are considered expert virologists.MononegaviralesMononegaviralesMononegavirales is an order of negative-strand RNA viruses which have nonsegmented genomes. Some members that cause human disease in this order include Ebola virus, human respiratory syncytial virus, measles virus, mumps virus, Nipah virus, and rabies virus. Important pathogens of nonhuman animals and plants are also in the group.GenusGenusGenus (; pl.: genera) is a taxonomic rank above species and below family as used in the biological classification of living and fossil organisms as well as viruses. In binomial nomenclature, the genus name forms the first part of the binomial species name for each species within the genus. E.g. Panthera leo (lion) and Panthera onca (jaguar) are two species within the genus Panthera.Washington metropolitan areaWashington metropolitan areaMetropolitan area in the United StatesMetropolitan area in the United StatesMacaca fascicularisMacaca fascicularisMacaca fascicularis, variously known by common names such as crab-eating macaque, long-tailed macaque, or cynomolgus monkey, is a macaque species native to Southeast Asia. As a synanthropic species, the crab-eating macaque thrives near human settlements and in secondary forests. The crab-eating macaque has developed a variety of cultural perceptions, from being smart and adaptive, to being sacred, to even being pests in some cases.
