Model-driven architecture (MDA) is a software design approach for the development of software systems. It provides a set of guidelines for the structuring of specifications, which are expressed as models. Model Driven Architecture is a kind of domain engineering, and supports model-driven engineering of software systems. It was launched by the Object Management Group (OMG) in 2001.

Model transformationA model transformation, in model-driven engineering, is an automated way of modifying and creating platform-specific model from platform-independent ones. An example use of model transformation is ensuring that a family of models is consistent, in a precise sense which the software engineer can define. The aim of using a model transformation is to save effort and reduce errors by automating the building and modification of models where possible.QVTQVTQVT (Query/View/Transformation) is a standard set of languages for model transformation defined by the Object Management Group. OverviewModel transformation is a key technique used in model-driven architecture. As the name QVT indicates, the OMG standard covers transformations, views and queries together.Unified Modeling LanguageUnified Modeling LanguageThe Unified Modeling Language (UML) is a general-purpose, object-oriented, visual modeling language that provides a way to visualize the architecture and design of a system, similar to the function of a blueprint. UML defines notation for 14 types of diagrams which focus on aspects such as behavior, interaction, and structure. The UML has a metamodel defined by the OMG UML specification.Meta-Object FacilityMeta-Object FacilityThe Meta-Object Facility (MOF) is an Object Management Group (OMG) standard for model-driven engineering. Its purpose is to provide a type system for entities in the CORBA architecture and a set of interfaces through which those types can be created and manipulated. MOF may be used for domain-driven software design and object-oriented modelling.Platform-specific modelA platform-specific model is a model of a software or business system that is linked to a specific technological platform (e.g. a specific programming language, operating system, document file format or database). Platform-specific models are indispensable for the actual implementation of a system.Executable UMLExecutable UML (xtUML or xUML) is both a software development method and a highly abstract software language. It was described for the first time in 2002 in the book "Executable UML: A Foundation for Model-Driven Architecture". The language "combines a subset of the UML (Unified Modeling Language) graphical notation with executable semantics and timing rules." The Executable UML method is the successor to the Shlaer–Mellor method.Enterprise Distributed Object ComputingThe UML profile for Enterprise Distributed Object Computing (EDOC) is a standard of the Object Management Group in support of open distributed computing using model-driven architecture and service-oriented architecture. Its aim is to simplify the development of component based (EDOC) systems by providing a UML-based modeling framework conforming to the MDA of the OMG.XML Metadata InterchangeThe XML Metadata Interchange (XMI) is an Object Management Group (OMG) standard for exchanging metadata information via Extensible Markup Language (XML). It can be used for any metadata whose metamodel can be expressed in Meta-Object Facility (MOF), a platform-independent model (PIM). The most common use of XMI is as an interchange format for UML models, although it can also be used for serialization of models of other languages (metamodels).Request for proposalRequest for proposalA request for proposal (RFP) is a form of reverse auction, initiated by an organisation interested in the procurement of a service or product, that solicits a business proposal from potential suppliers. It is usually part of a complex sales process, and made through a bidding process.Model-driven engineeringModel-driven engineering (MDE) is a software development methodology that focuses on creating and exploiting domain models, which are conceptual models of all the topics related to a specific problem. Hence, it highlights and aims at abstract representations of the knowledge and activities that govern a particular application domain, rather than the computing (i.e., algorithmic) concepts. MDE is a subfield of a software design approach referred as round-trip engineering.Object Management GroupObject Management GroupThe Object Management Group (OMG) is a computer industry standards development organization (SDO), or voluntary consensus standards body (VCSB). OMG develops enterprise integration and modeling standards for a range of technologies.Meta-process modelingMeta-process modelingMeta-process modeling is a type of metamodeling used in software engineering and systems engineering for the analysis and construction of models applicable and useful to some predefined problems. Meta-process modeling supports the effort of creating flexible process models. The purpose of process models is to document and communicate processes and to enhance the reuse of processes. Thus, processes can be better taught and executed.
