A mass flow meter, also known as an inertial flow meter, is a device that measures mass flow rate of a fluid traveling through a tube. The mass flow rate is the mass of the fluid traveling past a fixed point per unit time, in SI units of kilograms per second. The mass flow meter should not be confused with volumetric flow meters, which measure the volumetric flow rate (volume per unit time, in units such as cubic meters per second).

Angular momentumAngular momentumConserved physical quantity; rotational analogue of linear momentumAngular momentum (sometimes called moment of momentum or rotational momentum) is the rotational analog of linear momentum. It is an important physical quantity because it is a conserved quantity – the total angular momentum of a system upon which zero net external force acts is constant. Angular momentum has both a direction and a magnitude, and both are conserved.Coriolis forceCoriolis forceIn physics, the Coriolis force is a pseudo-force that acts on objects in motion within a frame of reference that rotates with respect to an inertial frame. In a reference frame with clockwise rotation, the force acts to the left of the motion of the object. In one with anticlockwise (or counterclockwise) rotation, the force acts to the right. Deflection of an object due to the Coriolis force is called the Coriolis effect.Flow measurementFlow measurementFlow measurement is the quantification of bulk fluid movement. Flow can be measured using devices called flowmeters in various ways. Volumetric flow meters quantity volumetric flow rate while mass flow meters quantify mass flow rates.StiffnessStiffnessStiffness or rigidity is the extent to which an object resists deformation in response to an applied force. The inverse of stiffness is flexibility or pliability: the more flexible an object is, the less stiff it is. Other terms with related meanings are compliance and elasticity. CalculationsThe stiffness, k,{\displaystyle k,} of a body is a measure of the resistance offered by an elastic body to deformation.DensityDensity (volumetric mass density or specific mass) is the ratio of a substance's mass to its volume. The symbol most often used for density is ρ (the lower case Greek letter rho), although the Latin letter D (or d) can also be used: ρ = m V , {\displaystyle \rho ={\frac {m}{V}},} where ρ is the density, m is the mass, and V is the volume.PressurePressureForce distributed over an area PressurePressure exerted by particle collisions inside a closed container.Mass flow rateMass flow rateIn physics and engineering, mass flow rate is the rate at which mass of a fluid passes through a surface over time. Its unit is kilogram per second (kg/s) in SI units, and slug per second or pound per second in US customary units. The common symbol is m˙{\displaystyle {\dot {m}}} (pronounced "m-dot"), although sometimes μ{\displaystyle \mu } (Greek lowercase mu) is used. Sometimes, mass flow rate as defined here is termed "mass flux" or "mass current".AmplitudeThe amplitude of a periodic variable is a measure of its change in a single period (such as time or spatial period). The amplitude of a non-periodic signal is its magnitude compared with a reference value. There are various definitions of amplitude (see below), which are all functions of the magnitude of the differences between the variable's extreme values. In older texts, the phase of a periodic function is sometimes called the amplitude.FluidIn physics, a fluid is a liquid, gas, or other material that may continuously move and deform (flow) under an applied shear stress, or external force. They have zero shear modulus, or, in simpler terms, are substances which cannot resist any shear force applied to them.Volumetric flow rateVolumetric flow rateVolume of fluid which passes per unit time In physics and engineering, in particular fluid dynamics, the volumetric flow rate (also known as volume flow rate, or volume velocity) is the volume of fluid which passes per unit time; usually it is represented by the symbol Q (sometimes V ˙ {\displaystyle {\dot {V}}} ). Its SI unit is cubic metres per second (m3/s). It contrasts with mass flow rate, which is the other main type of fluid flow rate.MassMassAmount of matter present in an objectMass is an intrinsic physical quantity of a body which in modern physics is generally defined as the strength of an object's gravitational attraction to other bodies. The unit of mass in the International System of Units (SI) is the kilogram (kg). Mass can also be understood as a measure of the energy content of a body (see E=mc²).International System of UnitsInternational System of UnitsThe International System of Units, internationally known by the abbreviation SI (from its official French name, Système international d'unités), is the modern form of the metric system and the world's most widely used system of measurement. It is the only system of measurement with official status in nearly every country in the world, employed in science, technology, industry, and everyday commerce.
