ISO 216 is an international standard for paper sizes, used around the world except in North America, the Philippines and parts of Latin America. The standard defines the "A", "B" and "C" series of paper sizes, which includes A4, the most commonly available paper size worldwide. Two supplementary standards, ISO 217 and ISO 269, define related paper sizes. All ISO 216, ISO 217 and ISO 269 paper sizes (except some envelopes) have the same aspect ratio, √2:1, within rounding error.

For example, the aspect ratio of a rectangle is the ratio of its longer side to its shorter side—the ratio of width to height, when the rectangle is oriented as a "landscape". The aspect ratio is most often expressed as two integer numbers separated by a colon (x:y), less commonly as a simple or decimal fraction.EnvelopeEnvelopeStationery item used for flat mail Front of an envelope mailed in the U.S. in 1906, with a postage stamp and address Back of the above envelope, showing an additional receiving post office postmark An envelope is a common packaging item, usually made of thin, flat material. It can also be defined as: an equiangular quadrilateral, since equiangular means that all of its angles are equal (360°/4 = 90°); or a parallelogram containing a right angle. A rectangle with four sides of equal length is a square. The term "" is used to refer to a non-square rectangle. A rectangle with verticesABCD would be denoted as ABCD.ISO 217ISO 217The ISO 217:2013 standard defines the RA and SRA paper formats. OverviewThese paper series are untrimmed raw paper. RA stands for "raw format A" and SRA stands for "supplementary raw format A". The RA and SRA formats are slightly larger than the corresponding A series formats. This allows bleed (ink to the edge) on printed material that will be later cut down to size. These paper sheets will after printing and binding be cut to match the A format.University of GöttingenUniversity of GöttingenThe University of Göttingen, officially the Georg August University of Göttingen (German: Georg-August-Universität Göttingen, commonly referred to as Georgia Augusta), is a public research university in the German city of Göttingen, Lower Saxony.
