Dolomite () is an anhydrouscarbonate mineral composed of calciummagnesium carbonate, ideally CaMg(CO3)2. The term is also used for a sedimentarycarbonate rock composed mostly of the mineral dolomite (see Dolomite (rock)). An alternative name sometimes used for the dolomitic rock type is dolostone. HistoryAs stated by Nicolas-Théodore de Saussure the mineral dolomite was probably first described by Carl Linnaeus in 1768.
