For example, if the batter bats a base hit which allows a teammate already on base to reach home, thus scoring a run, then the batter gets credited with an RBI. Certain situations are excluded, such as when an error is made on the play. Before the 1920 Major League Baseball season, runs batted in were not an official baseball statistic.Home runHome runIn baseball, a home run (abbreviated HR) is scored when the ball is hit in such a way that the batter is able to circle the bases and reach home platesafely in one play without any errors being committed by the defensive team. A home run is usually achieved by hitting the ball over the outfield fence between the foul poles (or hitting either foul pole) without the ball touching the field.OutfielderOutfielderAn outfielder is a person playing in one of the three defensive positions in baseball or softball, farthest from the batter. These defenders are the left fielder, the center fielder, and the right fielder. As an outfielder, their duty is to catch fly balls and ground balls then to return them to the infield for the out or before the runner advances, if there are any runners on the bases.
