A common year is a calendar year with 365 days, as distinguished from a leap year, which has 366 days. More generally, a common year is one without intercalation. The Gregorian calendar, used by the majority of the world, employs both common years and leap years. This is to keep the calendar aligned with the tropical year, which does not contain an exact number of days. A common year is approximately a quarter day (six hours) shorter than a tropical year, which has 365.24 days.

Its dominical letter hence is D. The current year, 2026, is a common year starting on Thursday in the Gregorian calendar, the last such year was 2015 and the next such year will be 2037, or, likewise, 2021 and 2027 in the obsolete Julian calendar, see below for more.Common year starting on WednesdayCommon year starting on WednesdayA common year starting on Wednesday is any non-leap year (a year with 365 days) that begins on Wednesday, January 1, and ends on Wednesday, December 31. The 366th day (or 13th month) is added to keep the calendar year synchronised with the astronomical year or seasonal year.Gregorian calendarGregorian calendarInternationally accepted civil calendarCalendar yearCalendar year[]A calendar year begins on the New Year's Day of the given calendar system and ends on New Year's Eve, and thus consists of a whole number of days. The astronomer's mean tropical year, which is averaged over equinoxes and solstices, is currently 365.24219 days. As this is not an integer, solar calendars have strategies to adjust for the 0.24219 remainder.Julian calendarJulian calendarSolar calendar Today(at UTC+00)Saturday, 19 September 2026Julian6 September, AD 2026 (AM 7534)Other calendarsAkanMonomemeneArmenian1 Sahmi 1476AztecTititl 12, 6 XōchitlBabylonian6 Ululu, 2337 SEBalinese pawukonLuang, Pepet, Kajeng, Laba, Wage, Maulu, Saniscara of Parangbakat, Brahma, Gigis, DukaBengali4 Ashshin, BS 1433ChineseYang Fire Monkey・Root MansionDay 9, Month 8, Fire Horse Year(Bailu, 4 days until Qiufen)Common Era19 September 2026 CECoptic9 Thout, AM 1743Egyptian6 Mechir, 2775 NEEthiopian9 Maskaram, 2019 Amätä MəhrätFrench RepublicanLa Fête du Travail de l'Année 234 de la RépubliqueGregorian19 September, AD 2026Hebrew8 Tishrei, AM 5787HinduMūla・AyuṣmānSolar: 3 Āśvina, 1948 SELunisolar: Aṣṭamī, Śukla pakṣa of Bhādrapada, 2083 VERāudra・5127 KY・1,872,837IcelandicLaugardagur, 26 Tvímánuður 2026Islamic6 Rabi' al-thani, AH 1448(using tabular method)ISO week date2026-W38-6Japanese9 Hazuki, Reiwa 8(Hakuro, 4 days until Shūbun)Julian day2461303Korean9 Dakdal, 4359 DEMaya13.0.13.17.013 Chen, 6 AhauRomanante diem VIII Idus Septembres, MMDCCLXXIX AUCSolar Hijri28 Shahrivar, SH 1405Tibetan8 khrums, me pho rta2153 or 1772 or 1000[refresh] The Tusculum portrait of Julius Caesar The Julian calendar is a solar calendar of 365 days in every year with an additional leap day every fourth year (without exception).Tropical yearA tropical year, or solar year (or tropical period), is the time that the Sun takes to return to the same position in the sky – as viewed from the Earth or another celestial body of the Solar System – thus completing a full cycle of astronomical seasons. For example, it is the time from vernal equinox to the next vernal equinox, or from summer solstice to the next summer solstice. It is the type of year used by tropical solar calendars.WeekWeekA week (in the Western and international context) is a unit of time equal to seven days. It is the standard calendrical period between a day and a month in most parts of the world. There are just over 52 weeks in a year, or on average 4+1⁄3 weeks in a month. The days of the week are often used to set work days, rest days, and holy days. The term "week" is also used to refer to a sub-section of the week, such as the workweek and weekend.Intercalation (timekeeping)Intercalation (timekeeping)Look up or in Wiktionary, the free dictionary.DayDayA day is the timeperiod of a full rotation of the Earth with respect to the Sun. On average, this is 24 hours (86,400 seconds). As a day passes at a given location it experiences morning, afternoon, evening, and night. This daily cycle drives circadian rhythms in many organisms, which are vital to many life processes. A collection of sequential days is organized into calendars as dates, almost always into weeks, months, and years.
