History

This settlement was founded in 1677. It was a town in Kharkov Uyezd of

. The raion was abolished in July 2020 as part of the administrative reform of Ukraine, which reduced the number of raions of Kharkiv Oblast to seven. The area of Zolochiv Raion was merged into Bohodukhiv Raion. In 2022, Russian military expansion into Ukraine began, as a result of which the city ended up in the zone of the occupation of Russian troops. Only in mid-May 2022, Zolochiv was liberated by the Ukrainian military forces. It is the center of the Zolochiv community, which is actively shelled by Russian artillery. Until 26 January 2024, Zolochiv was designated
