Demographics

At the 2010 census, the township was 64.3% non-Hispanic White, 23.8% Black or African American, 0.2% Native American, 1.5% Asian, and 3.8% were two or more races. 7.5% of the population were of Hispanic or Latino ancestry. At the 2000 census there were 5,116 people, 1,874 households, and 1,362 families living in the township. The population density was . There were 1,974 housing units at an average density of . The racial makeup of the township was 75.10% White, 12.30% African American, 0.90% Native American, 3.60% Asian, 5.50% from other races, and 2.40% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 12.50%. There were 1,874 households, 35.6% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 55.0% were married couples living together, 12.0% had a female householder with no husband present, and 27.3% were non-families. 22.3% of households were made up of individuals, and 7.4% were one person aged 65 or older. The average household size was 2.66 and the average family size was 3.11. The age distribution was 26.5% under the age of 18, 6.2% from 18 to 24, 34.2% from 25 to 44, 20.8% from 45 to 64, and 12.3% 65 or older. The median age was 36 years. For every 100 females, there were 95.0 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 93.1 males. The median household income was $50,933 and the median family income was $58,712.
