In 1950, he was moved to

, where he died on 11 July 1952. He was buried at nighttime, without a

, and the grave was leveled. Communist authorities sought to keep the location of his burial a secret, in order to avoid potential pilgrimages to it. The news of Frențiu's death spread throughout the prison during the next morning. According to the memoirs of
