Courtauld was the son of Sydney Courtauld and Sarah Lucy Sharpe. He was educated at Rugby and at Trinity College, Cambridge.

Public life

Courtauld was chairman of the Education Committee for Braintree area, and a member of the Essex Education Committee. He represented Braintree division on the Essex County Council, and was chairman of the Braintree Bench. He was a Deputy Chairman of Essex Quarter Sessions from 1921 to 1928, and Chairman from 1928 to 1936. He was a General Commissioner of Income Tax from 1908 until his death. Personal life

Courtauld married his cousin Constance Cecily Courtauld, daughter of George Courtauld, on 23 January 1913 in Gosfield, Essex. He died in May 1940, aged 69, when the Courtauld baronetcy became extinct.
