History

The first written mention of Hrádek is from 1362. In 1736, Emperor Charles VI allowed Hrádek to hold markets. In this time, Hrádek was probably promoted to a

and started to be called Nový Hrádek.

. The ruin of the Frymburk Castle is locate on a hill west of the market town. The castle dates from the 14th century; existence of the castle was first documented in 1354. The castle was burned down in peasant rebellions in 1626 and 1629, and then burned down by the

in 1638. In 1659, the ruin was demolished. The castle was then restored, used as a hunting lodge and maintained until the mid-18th century. At the turn of the 18th and 19th centuries, the roof was taken down and the castle was definitely abandoned.
