Noville is first mentioned in 903 as ''Nova villa''. In 1162-1173 it was mentioned as ''Nouila''. Due to the similarity between the names Noville and the neighboring municipality of Villeneuve (Villa Nova) it is very difficult to identify which village is being mentioned in older records.
