Name and history
Newton Township was likely named for
Newtown, Connecticut

soon after its creation in 1806. It is one of five
Newton Townships statewide.
Newton Township was formed from the
Connecticut Western Reserve.

The township is governed by a three-member board of trustees, who are elected in November of odd-numbered years to a four-year term beginning on the following January 1.
