Synopsis
''New Heart'' is a drama about heart surgeons who work in the thoracic surgery department of the fictional Kwanghee University Hospital.
Lee Eun-sung (
Ji Sung) graduated from a newly established medical school in the provinces. He applies for a
residency program the hospital and has high hopes of becoming a great doctor, despite his poor performance academically. Nam Hye-suk (
Kim Min-jung) graduated at top of her medical school and is the first person to achieve perfect scores.
Eun-sung and Hye-suk's characters are opposites. Eun-sung is impulsive and compassionate, but lacks sound medical practice. Hye-suk is calculating and cold, but has a brilliant mind. They both must prove themselves to the new head of the Department of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery, Choi Kang-guk (

cardiothoracic surgeon

. Although he is a medical genius, he is stubborn and refuses to maintain the status quo and abide by hospital policies. Eun-sung and Hye-suk are the only applicants for the cardiothoracic residency positions at Kwanghee University Hospital. Dr. Choi is forced to accept them whilst attempting to restore the reputation of the cardiothoracic department of the hospital.
