A post office called Mulberry was established in 1838, and remained in operation until 1914. The community was named for

Cityhood initiative

On January 8, 2024, Georgia State House Majority Leader, Chuck Efstration, introduced legislation that would pave the way for the creation of the city of Mulberry located in Gwinnett County.
