As per the 2011 Census of India, Matigara had a total population of 5,685 of which 3,086 (54%) were males and 2,599 (46%) were females. Population below 6 years was 822. The total number of literates in Matigara was 3,937 (80.96% of the population over 6 years).

. There is a water treatment plant of 3.5 million gallons per day capacity. Drinking water from JWTP is supplied to Matigarha Colony, Bhimkanali, Nudkhurkee and Nehru Nagar (Harina Colony) of Block-II Area. At Dugdha T/S water is drawn from boreholes to ground water tank. From ground tank water is pumped to over head tank and the water is supplied to the colony from overhead tanks. For D.G Colony & Benedih Colony water is being supplied through boreholes.
