As per the 2011 Census of India, Madhuban had a total population of 4,316 of which 2,278 (53%) were males and 2,038 (47%) were females. Population below 6 years was 562. The total number of literates in Madhuban was 2,911 (77.54% of the population over 6 years).

Madhuban has an area of 2.87 km2. It is 31 km from the district headquarters Dhanbad. There is a railway station at Madhuban. Buses are available in the town. It has 3 km roads and open drains. of BCCL covers Nudkhurkee OCP, Benedih OCP and Jamunia OCP for coking coal and Block-II Project for non-coking coal. Madhuban coal washery is also under the administrative control of Block II Area. The administrative office of Block II Area is located near Dumra. Madhuban coking coal washery of BCCL was commissioned in 1998 and has an operable capacity of 2.5 million tonnes per year.
