Morgan State University. He received tenure three years later, at age 26. He is currently an associate professor of creative writing and film in the Department of English and Language Arts.
In 2017, he was appointed Distinguished Professor-in-Residence at the
MICA (Institute of Strategic Marketing and Communication) in India.
He is the recipient of the 2021 Morgan State University Distinguished Achievement Award.
In 2025, he received an Honorary Degree, Doctor of Arts from
Lafayette College.
