
Lizard, also known as The Lizard, is a village on
the Lizard peninsula in
Cornwall, England, United Kingdom. It is situated about south of
Helston, and is mainland
Britain's most southerly settlement. Lizard is a tourist centre and its large
village green is surrounded by cafes and gift shops.
The name derives from the
Cornish ''Lis'' for 'place' and ''Ard'' for 'high'. The village is in the
civil parish of
Landewednack, the most southerly parish on the British mainland.

Domesday Book of 1086 as a relatively small settlement and lying within the hundred of Winnianton.
