Koszalin Voivodeship (1950–1975)

The Koszalin Voivodeship was a voivodeship (province) of the Polish People's Republic, with capital in Koszalin, that existed from 1950 to 1975. It was established on 6 July 1950, from the eastern half of the Szczecin Voivodeship,Ustawa z dnia 28 czerwca 1950 r. o zmianach podziału administracyjnego Państwa (Dz.U. z 1950 r. nr 28, poz. 255)
and existed until 31 May 1975, when it was partitioned between then-established voivodeships of Koszalin, Słupsk, and Piła.Ustawa z dnia 28 maja 1975 r. o dwustopniowym podziale administracyjnym Państwa oraz o zmianie ustawy o radach narodowych. (Dz.U. 1975 nr 16 poz. 91)

History

The Koszalin Voivodeship was established on 6 July 1950, as one of the voivodeships (provinces) of the Polish People's Republic. It was formed from the eastern half of the Szczecin Voivodeship. It included the counties of BiaÅ‚ogard, Bytów, CzÅ‚uchów, Drawsko, KoÅ‚obrzeg, Koszalin, Miastko, SÅ‚awno, SÅ‚upsk, Szczecinek, WaÅ‚cz, and ZÅ‚otów, and the city county of SÅ‚upsk. Additionally on that day, the capital on then-established voivodeship, Koszalin, became the city county. In 1950, it was inhabited by 518 354 people, and in 1956, it had an area of 17 914 km².

On 1 October 1954 was established the Åšwidwin County, from parts of the counties of BiaÅ‚ogard, and KoÅ‚obrzeg. In 1974, it had an area of 18 104 km²,''Polska. Zarys encyklopedyczny'', Warsaw: Polish Scientific Publishers PWN, 1974, p. 700. and was inhabited by 837 000 people.

The voivodeship existed until 31 May 1975, when it was partitioned between then-established voivodeships of Koszalin, Słupsk, and Piła.

From 1950, to 1973, the leader of the voivodeship was the chairperson of the Voivodeship National Council.

' In 1973 was established the office of the voivode, however it remained vacant until the disestablishment of the voivodeship in 1975.
