He married Helen Anne Mackenzie (1799-1866), daughter of
Lord Seaforth. Her sister,
Mary Elizabeth Frederica Mackenzie, was the wife of Vice Admiral

Glasserton. Together, Joshua and Helen were the parents of several children, including:
