History

underwent a significant structural reorganization in 2018, resulting in its division into two separate institutions: Istanbul University and Istanbul University-Cerrahpaşa. This separation was undertaken to improve administrative efficiency and service delivery by taking geographical location and functional specialization into account. The reorganization was guided by the historical and functional distribution of the university's faculties and campuses. Istanbul Medical School, commonly known as "''Çapa''," became the central component of Istanbul University. Units located in Çapa, Beyazıt, Vezneciler, and other nearby areas remained under Istanbul University.
