Givisiez is first mentioned in 1142 as ''Juvinsie''. Until the beginning of the 19th century it was known as ''Juvisy''.

Power and water infrastructure as well as other special developed areas made up 4.0% of the area while parks, green belts and sports fields made up 1.4%.
