History

Gordon, one of the founders of the Cleveland Iron Mining Company, was responsible for initially landscaping the stretch of land, with the specific intention of bequeathing it to the City of Cleveland as a public recreation area. In 2022, at the final event of that year's Lake Erie Walleye Trail series of fishing tournaments, based in a parking lot near the park's boat ramps, two anglers were exposed as cheaters after their winning fish were found to have been stuffed with lead weights. They were stripped of their title and later pleaded guilty to criminal charges.,
