1st Central Committee, which had been elected by the 1st Congress, convened for its 1st Session on 3 October 1965 and elected Fidel as first secretary. He remained in office for 49 years until the convocation of the 1st Plenary Session of the
6th Central Committee on 19 April 2011, which elected his brother
Raúl Castro
