As of the 2000 census, there were 3,900 people, 1,546 households, and 1,167 families residing in the township. The population density was . There were 1,656 housing units at an average density of . The racial makeup of the township was 98.87% White, 0.10% African American, 0.21% Native American, 0.36% Asian, 0.03% Pacific Islander, 0.03% from other races, and 0.41% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.44% of the population. There were 1,546 households, out of which 28.9% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 66.9% were married couples living together, 5.2% had a female householder with no husband present, and 24.5% were non-families. 21.6% of all households were made up of individuals, and 12.2% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.51 and the average family size was 2.93. The township median age of 43 years was significantly more than the county median age of 40 years. The distribution by age group was 21.9% under the age of 18, 6.1% from 18 to 24, 25.5% from 25 to 44, 28.7% from 45 to 64, and 17.8% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 43 years. For every 100 females, there were 93.4 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 92.0 males.
