The name ''Dubičiai'' probably comes from the name of currently drained Dubas Lake which correspondingly is from the Lithuanian root ''dub-'' meaning 'to cave, to sink' (as ''duobė'' 'a pit', ''duburys'' 'a waterhole'). There is also Slavic personal name
