, the CDP has a total area of 2.2 square miles (5.8 km2), of which, 1.9 square miles (4.9 km2) of it is land and 0.3 square miles (0.8 km2) of it (14.29%) is water. It is situated between two lakes, Mud Lake, and Clear Lake.

Clear Lake was

ted in 1890 when the railroad was extended to that point. A post office called Clearlake has been in operation since 1891. A museum is located in the former Odd Fellows Hall on State Route 9 in Clear Lake.
