To facilitate the fair's main purpose, the international sale of rights and other publishing agreements, the organisers are creating a digital platform. On April 9, 2021, the Bologna Children's Book Fair announced the cancelation of its physical 2021 fair due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The next 59th edition of Bologna Children's Book Fair will take place in Bologna from 21 to 24 March 2022.
