Background

Prior to the 2018 Contest, Serbia had participated in the Junior Eurovision Song Contest eight times since its debut in , and once as in , prior to the Montenegrin independence referendum in 2006 which culminated into the dissolution of Serbia and Montenegro, Nohlen, D & Stöver, P (2010) ''Elections in Europe: A data handbook'', p1372 As of 2018, Serbia's best results are two third places, achieved in and .
