The American School of Asunción (ASA) offers a unique and culturally rich learning environment where students can achieve multilingual fluency in English, Spanish, and Guarani. This is accomplished through a U.S. standards-based curriculum integrated with the Paraguayan Ministry of Education and Science (MEC) program. Upon graduation, all students who complete the full course of studies, including core subjects in Spanish, Social Sciences, Paraguayan Social Studies, and Guaraní, are eligible to receive both a Paraguayan and a U.S. Diploma. For students new to the school or who require additional support, Spanish as a Second Language (SSL) and Paraguayan Studies are provided until they meet the language requirements for mainstream Spanish courses. The development and implementation of ASA's curriculum is a dynamic and collaborative process, guided by the Director of Teaching and Learning. It's built upon the academic standards of both Paraguay and the United States, focusing on backward planning from desired outcomes and emphasizing student learning and performance.


Activities & Athletics

ASA is recognized as having one of the finest athletic programs in the city of Asuncion. Each year the senior class at ASA host
Intercolegial
which is an event that includes more than twenty schools from across Asuncion who compete in soccer, basketball, volleyball, futsal, and handball. ASA in turn competes in more than ten major sports tournaments in the city of Asunción and each year travels internationally to compete in sports tournament. ASA High School requires students to complete a minimum of 20 hours of Service Learning annually, totaling 80 hours over four years, though most students exceed this. Students select from various local organizations in Asuncion and Paraguay, such as Operation Smile, Techo, CONIN, and others, as well as school-affiliated clubs like Global Issues Network, Debate Club, TRI- M Music Honor Society and others. These experiences aim to develop teamwork and leadership skills while supporting the community.
