Format

approved the slot allocation and format of the play-off tournament.
The first phase of the tournament will take place in November–December 2026 at a centralised venue. It will involve six teams ranked according to the FIFA Women's World Ranking before the draw. The top two teams from this phase will progress to the final phase.
The second phase will occur in February 2027, also at a centralised venue. This phase will include the two teams advancing from the first phase and four additional teams: two from CONCACAF, one from CONMEBOL, and one from UEFA. The six teams will be drawn into three pathways, with knockout matches determining the final three qualifiers for the 2027 FIFA Women's World Cup. Teams from the same confederation cannot be drawn into the same pathway.
