2018 tournament to win the title for the first time. The tournament was played at the
Sylhet International Cricket Stadium. The seven teams played in a
round-robin stage, with the top four progressing to the semi-finals.
The UAE and Malaysia qualified for the tournament by reaching the final of the

In the round-robin stage, Thailand beat Pakistan by 4 wickets to register their first ever WT20I victory against their opponents. Combined with a rain-out for the match between Bangladesh and the UAE, this led to Thailand qualifying for the semifinals, their best ever Asia Cup result.
