The Eagles finished the season 20–12 and 11–7 in 2019–20 Atlantic Coast Conference women's basketball season, ACC play to finish in a tie for fourth place. As the sixth seed in the 2020 ACC women's basketball tournament, ACC tournament, they defeated 2019–20 Clemson Tigers women's basketball team, Clemson in the Second Round and 2019–20 Duke Blue Devils women's basketball team, Duke in the Quarterfinals before losing to eventual champion 2019–20 NC State Wolfpack women's basketball team, NC State in Semifinals. The 2020 NCAA Division I women's basketball tournament, NCAA tournament and 2020 Women's National Invitation Tournament, WNIT were cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic, COVID-19 outbreak.
