Vrcelj was elected to the Assembly of Vojvodina for Sremska Mitrovica's constituency seat in the 2012 provincial election as a candidate of the Progressive Party's Let's Get Vojvodina Moving coalition. The election was won by the Democratic Party and its allies, and Vrcelj served in opposition for the next four years. He was subsequently awarded the ninety-fourth position on the Progressive Party's ''
