Úrvalsdeild Karla (handball)
Úrvalsdeild karla ( en, Men's Premier League, link=yes), also known as Olís deild karla for sponsorship reasons, is the highest men's handball competition among clubs in Iceland, where play determines the national champion. It is managed by the Icelandic Handball Association. Started in 1939, the Úrvalsdeild karla is the third-oldest national indoor handball championship in the world, after the Danish and Swedish championships which were started in 1935 and 1931 respectively. With 23 titles won so far, Valur is the record champion, while Haukar are holding a world record for enduring the longest time gap between two national titles with 57 years passing between their first win in 1943 and their second (of 11 in total so far) in 2000. Íþróttafélagið Þór, commonly known as Þór Akureyri, simply Þór or Thór, is a multi-sport club in Akureyri, Iceland. It features departments in Basketball, football, Handball and Taekwondo. Selfoss () is a town in southern Iceland on the banks of the Ölfusá river. It is the seat of the municipality of Árborg. Mosfellsbær (, colloquially Mosó) is a town in south-west Iceland, east of the country's capital, Reykjavík. The town of Mosfellsbær is a 15-minute drive from midtown Reykjavík. Ungmennafélagið Afturelding, commonly known as Afturelding or UMFA, is an Icelandic multi-sports club from the town of Mosfellsbær located just north of the capital Reykjavík. The club was founded in 1909 and today is primarily known for its handball, football and volleyball teams. Football The team plays their home games at artificial pitch Varmárvöllur in Mosfellsbær. The Valur men's handball is a Iceland team handball club from Reykjavík, that plays in the Úrvalsdeild karla. History The Valur men's handball team has a long history in Icelandic handball, the club is one of the most successful in the sport in Iceland: no team has won the Icelandic Championship and the Icelandic Cup as many times as the Valur men's team. The team's greatest achievement was undoubtedly reaching the final of the EHF Champions League in 1980, which it lost against the German TV Grosswallstadt. Vestmannaeyjar (, sometimes anglicized as Westman Islands) is a municipality and archipelago off the south coast of Iceland.
