Weewerk, stylized as (weewerk), is an independent folk, roots, bluegrass, country record label and artist-management company based in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. It was founded in 2002 as an art-and-music salon series in the apartment of Teenage USA Recordings partner Phil Klygo and artist-curator Germaine Koh. The current touring line-up is Tony Dekker on lead vocals, acoustic guitar and harmonica, Erik Arnesen on banjo, electric guitar and harmonium, Ryan Granville-Martin on drums and backing vocals, Bret Higgins on upright bass and Kelsey McNulty on keyboards and backing vocals. Past members included Julie Fader on backing vocals, Sandro Perri on guitar, and Greg Millson and Colin Huebert on drums. FemBots are a Canadian indie rock band from Toronto formed in 1998. FemBots are known for their unique sound of combining instrumental everyday items, junk instruments, and traditional instruments in their music. Background The band's core members, Dave MacKinnon and Brian Poirier, were members of the early 1990s alternative rock band Dig Circus alongside Mark Hansen, James Julien and Dave Dreveny. That band released three albums independently, but broke up in the mid-1990s before achieving any mainstream success. They subsequently joined with Ron Hawkins of The Lowest of the Low to form the band Hummer for a one-album project in 1997 before launching Fembots. Don Brownrigg
Don Brownrigg is a Canadian singer-songwriter from Codroy Valley, Newfoundland and Labrador. and has spent much of his career based in Halifax, Nova Scotia. He has released 3 full length albums, several singles, many collaborations, and has worked in theatre and puppetry. The Coast, Halifax's alt-weekly, said Brownrigg is "''instrumental to the Haligonian arts community''". Early life Brownrigg was raised in Upper Ferry in Codroy Valley. He is part of the MacArthur Family who settled in the area in the 19th century. His paternal great-grandfather is Henry J. Brownrigg. Teenage USA Recordings is a Canadian independent record label, founded by Phil Klygo and Mark DiPietro in the fall of 1997 on the back of Klygo's Skull Geek record label and fanzine. The label, based in Toronto, has released records by artists such as Elevator, Eric's Trip, The Weekend, Pecola, Gaffer, Smallmouth, Peaches, Stink Mitt, Dan Bryk, Kid Lunch, Thanatopop, Cecil Seaskull, Two-Minute Miracles, Lonnie James, Blood Meridian, Solar Baby, Robin Black, The Zoobombs, The Exploders, 122 Greige, The Killer Elite, Neck, and Mean Red Spiders. Song Corporation bought into the label in 2000 and named Klygo and DiPietro as Song's Directors of Artistic Development. The Burning Hell (band)
The Burning Hell is a Canadian band fronted by songwriter Mathias Kom and artist and multi-instrumentalist Ariel Sharratt, particularly known for their literate songwriting, DIY ethos, and dynamic live performances. Kom holds a PhD in ethnomusicology at Memorial University of Newfoundland, where he studied the political economy of DIY music. History The Burning Hell began in 2006 as the songwriting project of Mathias Kom. Elliott Brood (often stylized as Elliott BROOD) is a three-piece Canadian alternative country band formed in Toronto in 2002. It consists of Mark Sasso on lead vocals, guitar, banjo, ukulele, harmonica and kazoo, Casey Laforet on guitar, lead vocals, backing vocals, bass pedals, keys and ukulele, and Stephen Pitkin on percussion, sampler and backing vocals. The Barmitzvah Brothers
The Barmitzvah Brothers are a Canadian indie pop band from Guelph. Known for their use of fiddle as well as unusual and homemade instruments, and for their quirky and original lyrics focusing on everyday life, the working world and ordinary people. The band's sound crosses many genres. History The band was formed in April 2000 and originally consisted of three members. Jenny Mitchell, Gillian Manford and Geordie Gordon, son of Canadian singer-songwriter James Gordon, started the band to compete in a school talent show. The group was dubbed the Barmitzvah Brothers after a friend commented that their music was reminiscent of a Jewish celebration. The band began playing at local events, festivals and bars.
