Tripod.com
Tripod.com is a web hosting service owned by Lycos. Originally aiming its services to college students and young adults, it was one of several sites trying to build online communities during the 1990s. As such, Tripod formed part of the first wave of user-generated content. Free webpages are no longer available and have been replaced by paid services. Services Tripod offers web hosting with two paid plans, "personal" and "professional", which differ in features and storage space, but are both powered by the web authoring system "Lycos Publish". This tool has completely replaced the former offering of more general web hosting and removed free plans altogether. Tripod offered free and paid web hosting services, including 20 megabytes of storage space and the ability to run Common Gateway Interface (CGI) scripts in Perl. Bo Peabody
Bo Peabody (born 1971) is an entrepreneur, venture capitalist and Internet executive who co-founded Tripod.com, one of the earliest dot-coms, in 1992. He is currently the co-founder and Executive Chairman of Seated, a dynamic pricing platform for restaurants. He is also a venture partner and entrepreneur in residence at Greycroft Partners. Early life and education Peabody graduated from Williams College in 1994 and the Academy at Charlemont in 1990. Angelfire is an Internet service that offers website services. It is owned by Lycos, which also owns Tripod.com. Angelfire operates separately from Tripod.com and includes features such as blog building and a photo gallery builder. Trellix (1995–2004)
Trellix was a software company whose products allowed web users to set up personal websites with the use of online publishing tools. Located in Concord, Massachusetts, the company was founded in 1997 and was purchased by Interland (now Web.com) in 2003. In March, 2004 Interland closed the Trellix subsidiary. Trellix Web Founded in 1995 by software pioneer Dan Bricklin, Trellix's first product was Trellix, a program designed to allow companies to develop and manage information on corporate intranets. Richard Sabot (February 16, 1944 – July 6, 2005) was an economist, scholar, farmer, and Internet pioneer who was co-founder of Tripod.com, one of the first and most successful dot-coms, in 1992. (It was subsequently sold to Lycos in 1998) He was also a co-founder of Eziba (later acquired by Overstock.com), an Internet venture which sold handcrafted goods from artisans around the world. He was a professor emeritus of economics at Williams College, and previously taught at Yale University, Oxford University, and Columbia University.
