The Tourism Administration, MOTC () is the government agency under the Ministry of Transportation and Communications of Taiwan (Republic of China) responsible for the administration of domestic and international tourism policy making, execution and development in Taiwan. History The development of tourism industry in Taiwan within the government level began in 1956. In September 1960, a Committee of Tourism was set up within the Ministry of Transportation and Communications with the approval from Executive Yuan. The committee was reorganized as the Tourism Council in October 1966, then Tourism Bureau on 29 December 1972, and finally the Tourism Administration in September 2023. Taiwanese Mandarin, frequently referred to as ''Guoyu'' () or ''Huayu'' (), is the variety of Mandarin Chinese spoken in Taiwan. A large majority of the Taiwanese population is fluent in Mandarin, though many also speak a variety of Min Chinese known as Taiwanese Hokkien, which has had a significant influence on the Mandarin spoken on the island. Mandarin was not a prevalent spoken language in Taiwan before the mid-20th century. Early Chinese immigrants who settled in Taiwan before Taiwan under Japanese rule, Japanese rule mainly spoke other varieties of Chinese languages, primarily Hakka language, Hakka and Hokkien. Siraya National Scenic Area
Siraya National Scenic Area () is the newest of Taiwan's national scenic areas. It was designated by the central government of the Republic of China on 26 November 2005. The scenic area is named after the Siraya people, an indigenous ethnic group that populated this region until well into the 18th century, and whose descendants have intermarried with Han Chinese. The scenic area covers 13 districts/townships: 12 in Tainan City and one, Dapu, in Chiayi County. Southwest Coast National Scenic Area
The Southwest Coast National Scenic Area () is a national scenic area in Taiwan. The scenic area, which was set up in November 2003, covers parts of Tainan City, Chiayi County, and Yunlin County. It promotes tourist attractions on land and at sea between Taiwan Highway 17 in the east, and where the ocean reaches a depth of 20 meters. It includes the main winter habitat of the black-faced spoonbill, an endangered waterbird. In addition to ecological attractions, the scenic area has several remnants of Taiwan's now-defunct salt industry. The administrative headquarters are in Beimen District, in Tainan City.
