The Searchers (band)
The Searchers are an English rock group formed in Liverpool in 1959. Part of the Merseybeat scene, they flourished during the British Invasion of the 1960s, with hits including " Sweets for My Sweet", " Love Potion No. 9", " Sugar and Spice", " Needles and Pins", " Don't Throw Your Love Away", " When You Walk in the Room", " What Have They Done to the Rain" and " Goodby My Love". With the Swinging Blue Jeans, the Searchers tied for being the second group from Liverpool, after the Beatles, to have a hit in the US, when their "Needles and Pins" and the Swinging Blue Jeans' " Hippy Hippy Shake" both reached the Hot 100 on 7 March 1964. Mike Pender
Michael John Prendergast (born 3 March 1941), known professionally by the stage name Mike Pender, is an English musician. He was an original founding member of Beat music, Merseybeat group The Searchers (band), the Searchers. He is best known as the lead vocalist on many hit singles by the Searchers, including the song "Needles and Pins (song), Needles and Pins" and "What Have They Done to the Rain?". Spencer James
Spencer Frederick James (born 15 April 1953) is an English singer and musician. He has been the lead singer of veteran pop band The Searchers since 1986. James was also a member of the one-hit wonder band The First Class that scored a No. 4 hit with the song "Beach Baby". Early life James grew up in Hayes, Middlesex. Working for Marshall's Music Group, he developed an interest in guitars and began playing and singing in local bands. James improved his stage craft while deputising in the band White Plains. Marches against nuclear testing were organized by Women for Peace and Women Strike for Peace in the 1960s, and Malvina Reynolds was among those active in the campaign. Johnny Sandon
Johnny Sandon (originally named William "Billy" Francis Beck, 27 May 1941 – 23 December 1996) was a British musician, best known for being an early rock and roll singer who was part of the Merseybeat phenomenon in the early 1960s. Sandon started singing at age twelve and in 1958 appeared on Opportunity Knocks. The mothers of Sandon and John McNally both worked at the same bakery, and it was McNally's mother suggested to John to add him into the group. Sandon's first gig as the Searchers frontman was at St Luke's Hall in Crosby. His stagename, Johnny Sandon, was recommended by John based of The Sandon, a pub near Anfield stadium. Sandon led the Searchers from 1960 to February 1962, playing his last gig at the Cavern club on 28 February 1962. He then joined The Remo Four for one year, before leaving to pursue a solo career.
